The Claim That the Furkan Foundation Has Companies

There is no commercial company of any kind belonging to the Furkan Foundation.

What the claim rests on is this: among the people who attend the movement's talks and support its activities there are tradespeople, merchants and company owners. This is true, and it is ordinary. But a businessperson coming to a foundation's lessons does not turn the company they own into that foundation's company.

The error here is a simple and familiar one: religious or social closeness is presented as a relationship of commercial ownership. The companies of two people who go to the same mosque are not counted as joint; nor are the companies of people who come to the same lesson counted as belonging to a foundation. Ownership is something written in the trade register — it is determined by record, not by impression.

What does "trustees were appointed to the companies" prove?

The announcement that trustees for the management were appointed to some companies within the scope of the investigation does not show that those companies belong to the foundation either. A trusteeship is not a finding of ownership but a temporary measure applied for the duration of an investigation. That a measure has been applied does not mean that the claim the measure rests on has been confirmed — that distinction is the very difference between an investigation and a ruling.

While there is no final court ruling, to present a measure as a result is to shape opinion before the judiciary does.
