A statement taken on the fourth day with no lawyer present

Furkan Haber, the movement's own outlet, reported on 16 September 2026 that those detained on the morning of 19 August were prevented from meeting their lawyers. Alparslan Kuytul gave his statement on the fourth day of custody with no counsel beside him.

A first statement is one of the steps that sets the direction of an investigation. By the same account, Kuytul had not been able to speak with his lawyer even once before that day, and the statement was taken under those conditions. The same bar on access, the report says, applied to the other detainees in the file.

No ground was given for the bar, and it was not lifted before the statement was taken. The detentions had begun that morning of 19 August, with the simultaneous operation on members' homes and on the head office of Furkan Nesli magazine.
